Keep Your Pipes From Freezing This Winter
New Hampshire winters are hard on pipes. When water freezes it expands, and a pipe that splits in the cold often doesn't leak until it thaws. A few simple steps before the first deep freeze prevent most of it.

Disconnect garden hoses and shut off the indoor valve that feeds each outdoor spigot, then open the spigot outside to let it drain. Wrap pipes that run through unheated spaces like crawl spaces, garages and outside walls with foam insulation. On the coldest nights, open the cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls and let a faucet drip slightly. If you leave for a trip, keep the heat set no lower than 55 degrees.
If a faucet only trickles on a cold morning, a pipe may already be frozen. Keep the faucet open and call Pete's Plumbing. We're open 24/7 in Concord and the towns around it.
